Dear Parents and Carers,
Re: End of spring term update
I hope you and your families are well. It’s hard to believe that we have reached the end of the spring term and Easter is on the doorstep! Thank you for all your support during this term. We have had some challenges due to the Covid-19 restrictions, but have overcome them by working together. We look forward to a return to normality as soon as possible. If you have any issues with obtaining school uniform for next term, please email the school enquiries email.
We have done a significant amount of work on the culture and ethos we want for our school moving forward. After consultation with staff, Governors and students, there was a strong feeling that we need to focus our school ethos around a solid foundation of care, with enjoyment of all we do, providing opportunities for all, giving responsibility leading to confidence to succeed, and ultimately success in life. We received some excellent, frank and honest feedback from our students on their first days back in school in March. We asked them “What makes us stand out as a school and as individuals?” Their responses covered respect, the environment, ambition, teamwork, showing kindness, a consideration for others, being active, having different personalities and being able to express themselves. They wanted the future Budehaven to focus more on their futures, and our increased drive to improve careers education, information, advice and guidance will help address this. They said they want more advice on adult life skills such as mortgages and managing finances, and said that in the future they would like to focus more and more on their own studies.
One of the things they talked about was a need to renew the toilets in school. This is something I am planning on organising. I have approached Cornwall Council to ask them for their support in carrying this out in the near future. The students also want more extra-curricular activities, which we are organising for the summer term, now that the lockdown restrictions are starting to ease. We encourage all our young people to be cautious as we move out of the current situation and return to normal.
I would like to gain an insight into the views of parents and carers regarding your point of view on where we are as a school community and where we are going next, and will be sending out a questionnaire at the start of next term. In the meantime, please could you discuss the points above with your child, and have a think about any ideas you have that would help our school improve further, with suggestions about how to achieve this.
Have a restful Easter holiday, and we look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday 19th April.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Dominic Wilkes
