We aim to help you achieve a smooth transition from GCSE to A Levels and to attain the qualification that will open up the best opportunities for you in the future. We look forward to helping those of you who are already at Budehaven, and others who wish to join us in the Sixth Form, to make your choices wisely so that you can enjoy a happy and successful two years.
When students enter the sixth form, it is at a transitional time of life. Social pressures of school become important as well as achieving at A Level. As Director of the sixth form, I am aware of these issues and so to achieve your full potential I will ensure that the Sixth Form team support and nurture you during the time you are with us.
Through a carefully planned enrichment programme students can be well prepared for their future pathway, be it university or work. Considerable time is spent on preparation for university, with a carefully planned tutorial programme.
We value the enormous contribution Sixth Formers can make to the life of the whole school community, and encourage students to develop their talents and abilities through a wide range of activities, both in and out of school. In year 12 you will undertake one week of work experience that will build on and reinforce your work experience from year 10.
I am very proud of our sixth form; our team will do their utmost so that you select and have a successful, well-balanced A level curriculum. I hope you will meet new friends and develop both socially and academically; our aim is for every student to follow a curriculum that is varied and stimulating and which provides a sound basis from which to apply for university or work.

Students are given an academic tutor, who they meet, fortnightly. Here, they discuss pastoral and academic issues, such as UCAS or enrichment.
There is an assembly fortnightly where a variety of topics are covered, including Gap Years, revision tips, A level Mindset, apprenticeships and university.
Students can talk to Mr White and Mrs Skipp, our Pastoral Officer at any time, as well as their tutor.
The 16-19 Bursary Fund is designed to help support those young people who face the greatest barriers to continuing in education post 16.

Additional funding for the academic years 2020 to 2021 and 2021 to 2022 for schools, colleges and other 16 to 19 institutions to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19).
In light of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and disruption to students’ learning, Budehaven Sixth Form is working with students who have fallen behind, particularly those who are Disadvantaged, either financially or through Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities.
The funding has been made available to 16-19 providers to support students who have had their learning affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. The Tuition Fund is ring-fenced for schools, colleges and all other 16 to 19 providers to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus.
The funding can be used to provide small group tuition for 16-19-year olds on a study programme where their learning has been disrupted and they have a GCSE Maths and / or English grade of 4 or below at age 16. Although the support is targeted based on prior attainment in maths/English, the funding is not limited to support in these subjects, and will be provided according to need across a variety of subjects. It is also for students who have a grade 4 or English and/or maths, are from an economically disadvantaged background and would need catch-up support. These are defined as students from the 27% most economically deprived areas of the country based on the index of multiple deprivation
Support is being prioritised where students will benefit most from small group tuition, and particular regard is being given to the requirements of disadvantaged students and students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Budehaven Community School has committed to using the Tuition Fund.
