xs-nrg dancers perform beachcomber dance with buckets and spadesEnergetic Budehaven Dance Group XS NRG! continue delighting audiences across Cornwall.

XS NRG! has been working very hard this year preparing work for public performances. In November they danced at Bodmin College in ‘Light and Darke’ and on January 24th they danced in ‘Darke Nights’ at The Hall for Cornwall, Truro.

Both performances were in celebration of Cornish playwright, Nick Darke and featured a range of youth dance groups from around the county. Their dance, entitled Beachcombers, was inspired by Darke’s writings on beachcombing and the objects which he found.

Featuring 27 dancers from Years 9 - 13, it began with a tongue in cheek routine complete with buckets and spades to the music Oh I do like to be beside the seaside. The second section of the dance explored what happens to objects in the sea which are then found on the strandline.

Tuesday 12thJanuary  -  evening update

Firstly, I hope all students, parents and staff are safely home and in the warm.

I am sure some of you were surprised (maybe even incredulous) and frustrated at my decision taken at 12.45pm today to close the school given that Bude was bathed in nothing more than cloud at the time.  We started receiving phone calls and emails at about 12.15 from parents on the Bodmin Moor side of the catchment that heavy snow was falling on the moor; this was confirmed by people phoning into Radio Cornwall. At this stage I was looking to send staff home who would be affected and keep the school open by covering those classes (about 15 classes would have been covered, excluding Sixth Form).  However, the emails and phone calls increased so we contacted the bus companies who advised that an early closure would be wise given the rapidly deteriorating weather across North and East Cornwall.  Hence, the decision was quickly taken, Chair of Governors informed and we contacted Radio Cornwall and Radio Devon.  We brought lunch forward to allow all students to get some hot lunch (many chose to go straight home) and all school buses left by 1.30pm.  By that time we had sleet in Bude and the biting cold wind had increased.

Driving home myself over Davidstow was not pleasant, and I’m glad that I left management of the school to Mr Sellars from 1.50 onwards. A small number of students awaiting lifts or who were unable to get home until 3.20 were still in school together with the Leisure and Tourism Year 11 exam students who were due to finish at just gone 3.00pm.  All the examinees had made arrangements to stay in Bude overnight had that proved necessary; well done to them all.

We again had a very good morning; all staff were in school together with nearly 90% of students.  Parts of the site remain very dangerous, and we again cordoned off the playgrounds.

Unless poor weather comes in overnight, I intend opening school tomorrow for all students ‘as normal’.  The forecast suggests rising temperatures and rain over the next few days, so hopefully we can all return to some form of normality!

May I thank you all for your patience and understanding during this challenging period of time.  I haven’t yet written to parents since Christmas; so – Happy New Year to you All!!

Exams Information

All exams this week (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) will take place in the school, and not at the Parkhouse Centre.
