Our Vision: A set of individuals, a team and a community: in Year 11, here at Budehaven Community School, we are all of these things and more. Driven by the success, positive attitude and achievement of my students every single day, and alongside their form tutors, subject teachers and support staff, I aim to nurture a culture where personalisation is evident whatever the child’s educational pathway; supporting success along the journey, however small or large.
As Year 11 Co-ordinator of Learning it’s a proud feeling to be part of the lives of this group of young people; they each have achievement and greatness within them.
As a Coordinator of Learning and Personal Well Being it is my aim to encourage students to realise their individual potential and take pride in their own performance. It is important to me that Budehaven students respect each other and understand that what we teach at school is not just about academic achievement but is also aimed at helping to create rounded individuals who will contribute positively to their community. Supporting students through their journey into adulthood can be challenging and tricky but it is always worthwhile.
The pastoral structure at Budehaven is based on year groups. Each year group has six or seven tutor groups of approximately thirty students and is led by a Coordinator of Learning and Personal Well-Being (often referred to as ‘CoLs’).
A key focus of the role of CoLs is to work with form tutors to monitor the progress of students and to help ensure they achieve their target grades based on their prior attainment. Therefore, working closely with Leaders of Learning and subject teachers, CoLs organise mentoring and other intervention strategies that help support students make progress.
The other main aspect of the role of the CoL, is the ‘personal well-being’ of the students in their year group. In addition to their tutor and CoL, pastoral support is provided for students by a Pastoral Support Assistant (PSA). Each year group has a PSA attached to it. The PSAs are located in the Pastoral Support Base (A20) and students can go there if they have a concern or problem.
