The Art Department is very proud of the work our pupils create here at Budehaven. The Bistro Art Gallery space is just one of the many ways in which we celebrate their achievements and give pupils a well- deserved moment of glory.
The latest one ‘Spring into Summer: Private View’ took place on Thursday evening last week in our Bistro Art Gallery Space on the school site (BAGS) and was a huge success. The work exhibited was a celebration of Art and Photography work created by pupils from Year 11 and Year 13 for their formal examinations. The supporting work by local artists Maddy Meaden, Jackie Harris and Laure Bury was truly inspiring. A big thank you to everyone who contributed and came to support this celebratory evening. As always it was fantastic to see the amazing creativity of pupils at Budehaven. There was a spectrum of talent on display ranging from superb art work to dramatic performances such as the captivating Silver Statues, Josie Miller and Sky Oxley, and the brilliant young buskers Arne Hamer, Dan Ellis and Rory Gare.
BAGS is also working in collaboration with Bude Arts and Music (BAAM), which was founded five years by a group of local people who wanted to ensure children, youth and adults of Bude had regular access to a range of cultural events including theatre; music; film. Konstantina Samara (Director and secretary for BAAM) commented, ‘We are very proud to support an innovative way of teaching at Budehaven, exposing students to different artistic styles and managing their work in order to obtain sales. Exhibitions are very well received and supported by students, parents and the local community.’
In total we sold six pieces of art which was fantastic and underlines the incredible talent of the students. It was a lovely moment to appreciate all the hard work that these students have put into their exams, truly all ending their ‘Sprint Finish’ as winners! It’s these moments when we see pupils’ efforts and ambitions realised that make us so very proud to be a part of Budehaven Community School. Overall it was great to work as a creative team & celebrate pupils’ achievements, bringing Drama, Music & Art together once more.
The Bistro Art Gallery Space (BAGS) is now open for business and welcomes everyone to come and view the final show this academic year, on the theme of ‘Spring into Summer’. The Gallery is open from 9am -3:20pm every weekday and is located near the Stratton Road entrance. A price list will be available at Stratton Road reception.
