This summer three Budehaven students, with other students from Okehampton and Truro undertook their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, but not on foot, on horseback!
The three students, Evie & Emily Skipp and Eleanor Petherick spent three days with their horses, camping on Dartmoor and carrying their kit in rucksacks and saddle bags, spending up to 7 hours in the saddle each day, traversing Dartmoor to work towards their Silver Award. This is a fantastic achievement for the girls and has taken hard work and commitment to complete their volunteering, expedition, skill and physical elements required for the Award. Next year the girls hope to undertake their Gold Award and are already planning their next expedition.
Our students were presented their Silver Award by the Mayor of Tavistock, Philip Sanders and in the photograph they are with Mary Harper the DofE organiser for the West Devon Open Group.
