The Budehaven Festive Triangle was a great success on Friday, thanks to everyone who supported and attended the event. We raised a total of £292 for CLIC Sargent and it really demonstrated what a caring community Bude is.
The event brought together the combined efforts of the Scouts, all local primary schools, BAAM, Bude Cleaner Seas and Budehaven Community School. It was a wonderful atmosphere, displaying the talents of our young children ranging from the voices of Bude Junior’s angelic choir to the fantastic vibe created by Budehaven’s Steel and Samba band. We were all amazed by the local dance groups LBD crew and XSNRG, Drama’s beautiful Street silver statues and the Sports activities really kept us warm on a cold and wintery evening! Thanks to St Petroc’s pony and cart ride, which Debbie and Andrew Trewin kindly ran to support our charity, raising £40. The craft stalls, also displaying the talents of Budehaven pupils’ alongside the Scouts, were fantastic at raising awareness of sustainability and creativity through their use of materials.
Konstantina from BAAM commented on these sustainable efforts, remarking ‘It was great to see the whole community coming together for the Budehaven festive Triangle celebrations. There was a lantern display from recycled plastic bottles made by pupils of Bude Federation, Stratton and St Petroc’s school’s. The bottles were decorated with lovely colours and shimmering materials with the message that their lifespan is endless.
Every year we throw away millions of tonnes of plastic which is dumped into the oceans and slowly breaks down into tiny pieces and consumed by marine animals. Harmful chemicals are then passed up the food chain and into our food and water supplies.
This is particularly relevant during Christmas time when plastic consumption and waste increases.’
Our efforts this year, were to raise awareness of sustainability, while also promoting health and well – being and I feel this is great positive message to launch us into Christmas and on into the New Year!
I would also like to give a special thank you to Verity Lawson from Bude Chamber of Commerce for making this event possible, Clive Symm and Paschal Dooley for documenting the evening and Ministry of Signs for being our sponsor.
Thanks also to Friends of Budehaven for supporting the event and raising £50.
All that’s left now to say is, ‘we wish everyone a very merry Christmas and happy new year!’
