Sam Halstead, artist in resident at Half – Acre studio, Boscastle, led an incredible workshop on Thursday with students studying GCSE and A level Art. As soon as you walked into the workshop, you were struck by the creative energy and focus from all students, who were clearly enjoying the process. Sam was really impressed by the creative commitment that our pupils demonstrated and went onto comment “I felt the workshop was a wonderful chance for the students to develop work over an entire day, a great opportunity.” They learnt about design, building armatures and they gained experience with a relatively new and innovative professional material, making work which can last outdoors and could be flexible to the future design of the garden.
The workshop will provide the first Art pieces, which will be permanent fixtures in the Pearl Bamford Garden.
The sculptures represent the pupil’s personal connection to their local environment and so are a perfect way to launch the first stage of developing this sustainable, community garden.
A big thank you to Sam for running such an inspirational workshop and to Sarah Szaniszlo for her invaluable support.
Finally, a big well done to all our pupils, who showed great skill, dexterity and commitment to the work!
The Art department wishes everyone a wonderful Easter!
Many thanks,
Rachel Miller (Leader of learning Art: KS4 & 5)
