Friends of Budehaven Summer Update

Hello Budehaven Parents.

We’d like to thank everyone who has supported the newly formed Friends of Budehaven over the last few months – the pounds and pennies that you donate have been building up in our new bank account and we’ve been able to start spending them on some great new equipment for the school.

Here’s a quick update on our fundraising and spending to date!

How we’ve been raising money…

Parents’ Evenings
The Friends now attend all parents evening and serve fresh coffee, tea and homemade cakes. Thank you to Sabins Coffee who provide really excellent coffee, which we’ve had loads of lovely comments about. Thanks to everyone who buys a cuppa and a cake, or enters our 50/50 raffle. The 50/50 raffle tickets cost £1 and at the end of the evening we split the pot 50/50 – half to the Friends of Budehaven and half to the owner of the winning ticket!

Nearly New Uniform

At Parents’ Evenings we wheel out a rail of nearly new uniform – this has been well received by parents – so thank you to everyone who has bought some so far. We are hoping to add PE kit to our range soon, including trainers, football boots, shin pads etc. If you have any uniform or kit that you would like to donate then please drop it into school marked for the Friends.

Co-op Community Fund
We have been chosen as a nominated charity for the Co-op’s Local Community Fund. Please sign up to be a Co-op member (or if you are already Co-op member then go online and nominate the Friends Of Budehaven School as your local charity). Over the next 6 months we are set to raise approx £2000 by being one of the Co-op’s nominated local charities. The more people that select us as their chosen charity, the more we will raise. https://www.coop.co.uk/membership

Fundraise for free as you shop online
Sign up to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ and collect free donations every time you shop online. Since Christmas over 80 people have signed up and have raised £219.05 for the school.

Car Boot Sale
The Car Boot Sale takes place from 8am-12pm every Sunday morning in the playground/car park by the Stratton Road entrance to school. We ask for £4 per car (please pay Millie at the Egg Stall) and we provide a great all-weather surface to park up and get selling!

Where the money goes…

In September we asked teachers and staff to tell us what they would like the Friends to fund. We have been really pleased to recently buy:

Music – new stackable music stands on a trolley and also sound proofing equipment to improve the quality of rehearsals and GCSE recordings. We were delighted to receive this note of thanks and photos from Bethany Wade, the Head of Music

Our wonderful music stands and vocal booth have arrived. We are very excited to use them and will take some pictures for you. The stands arrived last week and were fantastic at our concert when Bodmin and Trigg Winds joined us. It was great handing out excellent quality stands to our own musicians and visitors!! Our last ones used to break in our hands embarrassingly! Many thanks for your support once again.

English – new thesauruses – which were requested by students!

The Haven – some comfy bean bags to use in the school’s integrated health and well being centre.

Drama & Music – both departments have been exploring how to record the great work and progress that goes on in the department. The friends have funded a camcorder and hard drive to enable students and teachers to create an ongoing record of the departments’ practical work

We look forward to being able to fund more requests over the coming months.

We’d love more parents to get involved…

We are currently a very small group of parents and would love to have more parents on board. This doesn’t have to be a big role – you don’t have to come to lots of meetings or be involved in every event and activity. Perhaps you could get involved for a couple of hours once or twice a year at a parents evening or quiz night. Without making any commitment we welcome parents to sign up to our regular email updates which will let you know about upcoming events and activities and any help that is needed. If you’re interested in being included please email: anthony.odwyer@budehaven.cornwall.sch.uk
