Dear Parent/ Carer,
A part of our ongoing effort to safeguard students we have installed monitoring software on our network. This monitors internet activity as well as keystrokes on the school network. The system is linked to an advanced database of key terms and trigger words. If a match is made a screen shot or screen recording is taken of their screen and sent to myself or Mr Francis (Safeguarding Lead). These are the assessed to see if any action is required. We are hoping that this technology will help us act upon network misuse quickly and also combat cyber bullying within school.
All Students have electronically signed a copy of the Student Acceptable Use policy which is in place. This policy is in place to help safeguard our students and protect and prolong the life of our school network. A shortened version also appears on screen after they have logged on. Before they can access the network they must agree to the terms otherwise they will be denied access. The schools full E-safety policy can be downloaded here and is reviewed annually or earlier if deemed necessary.
I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage you to continue to communicate with your son/daughter about their activity online including online gaming. Remind them to never disclose personal information over the internet and to speak to an adult if they are concerned or worried about anything. This would also be an excellent time to also check those privacy settings are locked down!
I aim to keep you updated with regular developments relating to E-safety throughout the year but if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
