Friday June 30th is set to be a fantastic day of sport; showcasing the best teams across many Primary and Secondary Schools in the County. Budehaven Community School is hosting the games in partnership with Launceston College. Both sites will have over 1000 competitors and hundreds of leaders.
Budehaven students have spent the last month applying for various leadership roles and offering their services for stalls in the athletes village. Almost 400 students across Years 7,8,9, 10 & 12 will demonstrate their leadership skills on the day; whether this is in the form of an event manager, catering for our VIPs, personal assistants, in the tech team, media leader, officiating games, meeting and greeting parents and face painting, among many other jobs.
The athletes village will be open from 9.30 for all competitors to enjoy. Please remember to bring some pennies! The stalls include:
There will be on-going entertainment from 9.30-10.55 on the main stage on the Astro. Grace Neild and Meadow Tuvey (Year 10) will be human gold statues, either side of the stage. Let’s wait and see if they can avoid distractions from the crowd; I don’t think I could I maintain that sort of concentration without laughing! Good luck girls! The entertainment will include bands, dance performances, the steel band, samba band, a zumba routine and the school choir, Budehaven Voices. At 10.55 Heart FM will open the event and compere a 30 minute opening ceremony. This will commence with Keeley Davis Dawe (Year 11) performing a solo dance performance to Chariots of Fire followed by XSNRG performing their dance to run boy run. Our sporting champion, Izzy Hamilton will address the crowd with a motivational speech. Izzy is a former student of Budehaven and is in the British Sailing Team. Mia Wray (Year 10) will then read the athletes oath at Budehaven. Sopphie Powell (Year 10) will do this at Launceston College as a representative of our school. Both girls have been selected to do this as a result of their hard work in PE and Sports Leadership over the past year. Each school that attends will receive a pennant that has been designed by Luka Talajic -Sims (year 10) and Phoebe Boundy (Year 11). The opening ceremony will finish with Lisa Wood leading a mass warm up to all 1000 competitors. The games commence at 11.30. The entire event will be captured by an official videographer and photographer. Our Budehaven media leaders will regularly update social media with quotes, pictures and results, so keep your eyes posted on twitter; following the Cornwall Sports Partnership.
Please note that leaders in the following roles will be expected to stay until 5pm on June 30th.
Budehaven students who are not involved in the day as a competitor, leader or athlete village volunteer, will take part in four workshops during periods 1,3,4 & 5. These workshops will include:
During period 2 and break, all students in the school can roam the site and soak up the entertainment on stage and in the athletes village.
Congratulations to the following Budehaven teams for reaching the finals:
On 28th June two teams will be competing at the beach games at Perranporth:
On Friday 23rd June, a selection of students have been invited to attend the Games Makers Day, hosted here at Budehaven. This is run by the Cornwall Sports Partnership and will help prepare students for the main event on the 30th!
We hope all students, whether they are competitors, sports leaders, athlete village leaders or workshop students embrace the Games Values of respect, determination, self-belief, honesty, passion and team work. A lot of work has been achieved around these values across the school over the past few months; so much so, the Cornwall Sports Partnership want to ensure we get National recognition. Well done Budehaven students!
We are really looking forward to enjoying this event with you all. Budehaven School became a National Academy for Sports Leadership a couple of years ago – let’s show everyone why we were awarded that status! As a Leader of our Physical Education Department, I am blown away by the motivation and passion our students show towards sport. I will be so proud to let them showcase their leadership skills to the County.
Parents, Carers and friends are more than welcome to support the event; just please ensure you sign in at Stratton Road upon arrival. See you there!
