Clean and Create part 2 was a fantastic day, engaging and inspiring all Y7 pupils to protect their local marine environment. Guest speakers, Jenn Sandiford (Your Shore Beach Rangers) and Rory Sacree (local lifeguard) really captured Y7’s hearts and minds before heading to Summerleaze beach to start their 20 minute beach clean and group ‘heART’ creations. As an Art department we are proud to support the Bude Cleaner Seas initiative and realise that education of our pupils is essential to improving our environment. Cleaning our local beaches of plastics and creating a heart that symbolises the love for our community and care for our marine environment is only made possible when we all work together as a team.
As well as the 20ft heart created on Summerleaze beach, at Rosie’s café Artist Nia by the Sea, worked with a selection of pupils and the local community to create an amazing wooden heart covered in a spectrum of marine plastics. A big thank you to Rosie’s café for supporting this event and displaying this heart as a permanent fixture at their café. Our message is simple –we can be two hearts beating as one. Caring for our environment is key to the sustainability of the planet and tackling global issues have to start locally and here at Budehaven we are paving the way.
