We expect students to attend every day the school is open. This is because there is a strong relationship between attendance and achievement. If your child is unable to attend school, please ring the main school number on 01288 353271 and select Option 1 for Student absence.
If the absence is likely to be 3 days or more, please let us know as quickly as possible, preferably by letter. If your child needs to visit the doctor or dentist during school hours then an appointment card should be brought to school on the day. A letter should accompany every absence.
‘Unauthorised’ absences are treated as truancy. As we wish to keep absence rates low, we will contact you by telephone if absences have not been explained on the first day of absence. In cases of high unauthorised absences, referral will be made to the Educational Welfare Officer (EWO).
Please try to take holidays during the thirteen weeks of school holidays. The Headteacher has a discretionary power for leave of absence to be granted for the purpose of a holiday, but only in exceptional circumstances will holiday leave be granted. If you wish to take your son or daughter out of school during term, please complete a holiday form, see below. If the Headteacher grants leave of absence, the student will be set work to complete whilst away from school and we would ask parents to ensure that this work is completed in order that the disruption to the student’s education is minimised.
Each student with 100% attendance record during an academic year, will be rewarded with a £20 Budehaven voucher that can be spent in a large number of shops and stores in Budehaven. In addition, each time a student attends for a complete week they are entered in a termly draw for one of three £50 Budehaven vouchers. At the end of the year, the form group in each year group with the highest attendance rate will be rewarded with a prize, such as an afternoon, ten-pin bowling.Leave of Absence Form (PDF 389kB)
